Goldendoodle Breeder Improves the Popular Goldendoodle

Goldendoodle Breeder, New Kid on the Block

Goldendoodle Breeders offers Irish Goldendoodle puppies to families looking for a dog with improved health.

With Goldendoodles showing up at nearly every street corner across the US, their calm, sweet nature and high intelligence shines as they stroll with their owners.  The Goldendoodle, a Designer Dog which is a combination of the Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds, has enjoyed an explosion of popularity in the recent years.  Sunshine Acres, a Goldendoodle Breeder since 2002, was one of the first Goldendoodle Breeders in the Midwest.  Michael Wagenbach, owner of Sunshine Acres, has taken his experience with genetics at Iowa State University, and focused on incorporating a third breed into his Goldendoodles.  This increases genetic diversity and reduces the risk of health problems in his puppies.

The Golden Retrievers’ Beginning

Since the founding Golden Retriever Breeders used the Curly and Flat Coated Retrievers, Tweed Water Spaniel and Irish Setter breeds, Wagenbach went back to the Irish Setter breed to bring greater genetic diversity to his Goldendoodle lines.  The Irish Setter breed has fewer genetic defects than the Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds.  The puppy created from the combination of all three breeds is also at a reduced risk for genetic health challenges. In the purebred Golden Retriever population, cancer, hip and elbow dysplasia, eye, and heart diseases are common.  But in the purebred Irish Setter population, cancer, elbow dysplasia, and congenital cardiac problems are less common than in purebred Goldens.  The result of a 2012 study by the University of Cambridge shows a purebred Golden Retriever is 1.4 times more likely to die from cancer than a purebred Irish Setter.

New Irish Goldendoodle

According to Wagenbach, “The Irish Goldendoodle, as the new three-way-hybrid Goldendoodle is called, has proven to be a higher health Goldendoodle.  However,  it has the same personality and trainability as the Goldendoodle.   The Irish Goldendoodle has less of an undercoat than a Goldendoodle, so has an improved coat quality with the same teddy bear appearance.”  Sunshine Acres carefully selects each purebred Golden Retriever, Poodle and Irish Setter parent from quality lines.  They also do the appropriate health testing for each breed.  Sunshine Acres, the first  Irish Goldendoodle Breeder in the US, offers the new, 3-way hybrid red Irish Goldendoodle puppies for sale to families who want puppies with an improved chance of a long, healthy life.
