About Our Bernedoodle Puppies

Sunshine Acres is located in Wolcott, Indiana — about 1.5 hours from Chicago and 1.5 hours from Indianapolis.  Sunshine Acres’ Bernedoodle puppies for sale are a unique mix bred from a Bernese Mountain Dog – Irish Golden Retriever hybrid mother and a purebred Poodle father. They are also known as Irish Golden Mountain Doodles or Bernese Irish Goldendoodles. With excellent genetic diversity and the wonderful personalities found in each of their parents’ breeds, we have found our Bernedoodle puppies to be friendly, playful, mellow, and affectionate. Our puppies are socialized with children as well as adults to receive the appropriate social interaction and also receive the right veterinary care, good food, and clean water.

Our puppies’ parents have their hips, elbows, hearts, and eyes OFA evaluated, as well as genetic screening done to ensure the best health possible for our puppies. As experienced dog breeders, we are committed to doing everything we can to promote the welfare and long-term good health of all of our puppies and parents here at Sunshine Acres. We stand behind each of our puppies with a 3-year health warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bernedoodles

On average, the market price for a Bernedoodle puppy can vary greatly, ranging anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000 or more. This wide price gap depends heavily on several critical factors, including the breeder’s reputation and commitment to their puppies and their parents, geographic location, the puppy’s generation, size, and specific coat colors or markings.

Our Bernedoodle Pricing and Quality Commitment

When researching how much do Bernedoodles cost, it’s important to understand what goes into the price of a companion. Individual pricing for our Bernedoodle puppies varies based on color pattern, markings, and coat type.  Every puppy has the same wonderful temperament, good health, and exceptional early socialization training, regardless of price point.  Sunshine Acres current pricing is listed above, with our available puppies’ photos.

While a Sunshine Acres puppy is an investment, our prices directly reflect unmatched breeding standards, health clearances, and early development that lower-cost options simply cannot match. Every puppy purchased from our family represents superior quality and peace of mind through:

  • Rigorous OFA Health Screenings: We make sound, science-based breeding decisions. Every single parent dog undergoes extensive OFA evaluations for hips, elbows, hearts, and CAER eye certifications, alongside complete genetic DNA panels to eliminate inheritable diseases.

  • Intensive Early Socialization: We dedicate ourselves to hands-on daily handling and purposeful, family-oriented socialization from day one, ensuring your puppy grows into a stable, confident, and well-adjusted family companion.

  • An Industry-Leading 3-Year Health Warranty: We don’t just talk about health; we stand behind our bloodlines completely, offering a long-term warranty that protects your family and your investment.

To continue supporting our families’ long-term success, we also offer a $200 obedience rebate. If your puppy completes basic training and passes the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification test, we will gladly return $200 back to you!

The True Cost of Cheap Bernedoodle Puppies

You may occasionally see Bernedoodle puppies for sale online for as little as $800 to $1,500. While these prices might seem attractive if you are on a strict budget, the cheapest option is usually cheap for a reason. Low-priced puppies often come from substandard breeders that skip crucial health screenings. They frequently feature:

    • No genetic screening or DNA testing
    • No OFA evaluations for hips, elbows, hearts, or eyes
    • A minimal, short-term health warranty
    • Limited or no future support from the breeder

Investing less upfront can quickly become incredibly expensive down the line. For instance, dealing with a debilitating genetic condition like hip or elbow dysplasia can result in thousands of dollars in painful, costly surgeries.

Why Choosing a Reputable Breeder Matters

When researching how much Bernedoodles cost, it is crucial to look beyond the initial price tag and focus on the health and well-being of the dogs. A responsible and reputable breeder significantly lowers the risk of severe health issues by breeding only health-tested, high-quality parents.

At Sunshine Acres, making sound, science-based decisions to raise healthy, happy puppies has been our family’s priority since 2001. We stand completely behind our commitment to careful breeding, which is why every single puppy we sell comes backed by an industry-leading 3-year health warranty.

Adult size depends on which cross you’re looking at, since we raise two different Bernedoodle lines here at Sunshine Acres.

Our traditional Bernedoodles — a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle cross — typically weigh between 50 and 90 pounds as adults.

Our Irish Golden Bernedoodles (also called Golden Mountain Doodles) — a three-way cross of Bernese Mountain Dog, Irish Golden Retriever, and Poodle — usually run smaller and more moderate, typically weighing between 40 and 65 pounds as adults.

You’ll often see Bernedoodles described online using terms like Standard, Miniature, or Toy — but these labels aren’t standardized across breeders, and different breeders use them to mean very different weight ranges. We have chosen not to raise Miniature or Toy Bernedoodles, because achieving that small a size requires Toy or Miniature Poodle genetics. Toy and Miniature Poodles often carry a higher-strung, more energetic and vocal temperament — quite different from the steady, medium-energy personality of the Standard Poodles we breed with. That temperament difference is a big part of why our puppies are known for being calm, trainable family companions rather than high-energy little dogs.

Rather than relying on a label that means something different depending on where you look, we tell you the actual expected weight range for each specific litter, based on the true weights of that puppy’s parents.

As a general rule, a puppy’s adult weight will typically fall between its two parents’ weights, sometimes up to 10 pounds heavier than the larger parent. There can be some natural variation even within the same litter — the smaller puppies usually trend toward the smaller parent’s size, and the larger puppies toward the larger parent’s, though individual puppies can occasionally be outliers in either direction.

The average Bernedoodle lifespan is about 12-13 years. Some will live up to 15 or 16 years, but this is not as common. Good preventative vet care, adequate daily exercise and quality food are necessary for your puppy’s health and happiness. The most important aspect of your puppy’s longevity is its parents’ health and genetic background. A good breeder will check their puppies’ parents for all of the below:

  • Hip Evaluation (OFA or PennHip)
  • Elbow Evaluation (OFA or PennHip)
  • Cardiac Exam
  • Ophthalmologist Evaluation
  • Von Willebrand’s Disease, DNA Test
  • Degenerative Myelopathy, DNA Test
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy, DNA Test

Remember that each dog is unique, and some Bernedoodles may exceed or fall below the average lifespan. By offering a loving and supportive environment, you can enhance the quality of life for your Bernedoodle puppy.

Bernedoodles are not considered to be truly hypoallergenic. Only a small number of purebred breeds, like a purebred poodle for example, fall in this category since they are always non-shedding and dander-free. However, Bernedoodles are often considered hypoallergenic to some extent. Hypoallergenic refers to a lower likelihood of triggering allergies, especially those related to dog dander or shedding.

Some Bernedoodles shed, while some do not. It all depends on the genetics of the lines they come from. Our F1 Bernedoodle puppies or Irish Golden Mountain Doodle puppies usually do not shed. If a puppy has a risk of having a shedding type of coat, this is noticeable when they are a young puppy. Since we have been raising Doodle puppies for 25 years, through experience we can tell which puppies may be at risk of having a low-shedding coat type rather than the usual non-shedding coat type. We have selectively bred for a non-shedding coat type and rarely have shedding coats in our puppies.
